Rachel

A whip-smart psychology grad student, who tries to critically analyze everyone and every thing in her life. She ostensibly has a good heart, and wants to take care of the people in her inner circle, but she often makes decisions that some may find morally questionable or ambiguous. Rachel is used to working hard to get what she wants (nothing has ever been handed to her, and she is well aware of this). Rachel is ambitious, and hits her goals, at whatever the cost. Her parents are away for the summer, so she has their house to herself; she uses that freedom to do basically whatever the hell she wants.

Melanie

The goodtime, balls-out party girl. She’s on the wrong side of 25, but sees no reason why she should slow down. She is friends with Rachel from undergrad, and is a little older than her (she took some time off first, to travel and get into some sticky situations that most of her pals are not even aware of). Underneath the nonchalant exterior, Melanie has a kind soul, for the most part. She is honest to a fault, not caring at all what anyone thinks of her or her choices.

Bradley

He fancies himself quite the intellectual, but with some true grit and an indomitable cool factor. He is quite intelligent indeed, but devotes a significant amount of his time to perfecting his appearance and ‘woke’ reputation. A writer, he currently works at a somewhat pretentious coffee house as a barista, but is 100% confident that he will soon be discovered for the wordsmith/philosophical genius that he truly is. Bradley is liked by almost all, and can be smooth as silk when he wants to crank up the charm.

Jake

Jake is a frustrated individual. He is pretty smart; a chemist, working at a large plastics company. He is also friends with Rachel from college, and acquaintances with Bradley and Melanie. It’s no secret that Jake harbors a huge crush on Melanie (this is a pattern with the girls in their circle of friends). Jake never really landed anywhere, so to speak; he’s often dismissed, and not taken seriously, due to his palpable desperation at times. But Jake shouldn’t be counted out, as his solitude has lead him to some interesting mental places–and his observance of others has allowed him to learn to read people quite well.

Francesca

She is a snarky, no-nonsense girl. She knows Melanie, from the somewhat tame local party scene. She works hard (many long shifts) to take care of her family (at an old age home, no less), and is often irritable as a result. She parties to not just let off steam, but to truly escape her reality. She obviously uses her sarcasm as a protective wall from the harsh world around her, but she has a soft internal side as well.

Stephanie

At first glance, she is a born-again Christian and a very straight-laced girl. She doesn’t party, and enjoys spending time at the old age home where she works, aiding seniors. Francesca brings her to the party to help get her out of her shell. However, it is soon revealed that she actually has quite the history. Underneath the ‘good girl’ identity she has constructed, seethes a much bleaker figure. She once led a very different life, with a darker exterior image, serious drug use and run-ins with the law. After a fateful incident, she made a staunch attempt to turn her life around. It now remains to be seen if this newfound persona will truly stick.

Ern

He is just a regular type of ‘bro’, accidentally caught up in all this. He is not without his sins, as he is sporadically cheating on his girlfriend with Rachel, but he is not a villain by any means. Ern is a happy go lucky dude, and generally liked.

The Girl

The Girl is a timeless entity. Equal parts terrifying, whimsical and charming, she embodies all the qualities of humans that she desires to express (it appears). In her own words, she wants to watch the people in this house follow her rules and play her “game” simply because she craves the entertainment (as all ‘living’ creatures feel the need to alleviate boredom). She is impossibly beguiling – a task seemingly hard for an unknowable entity inhabiting a dead body.
